New state lawmakers take their seats in Illinois’ 100th General Assembly.
Speaker of the House, Mike Madigan, won a 17th straight term as the leader of the Illinois House.
However, the Illinois Senate approved new rules placing term limits on the leadership positions.
It’s one major concern facing the Assembly and meanwhile, lawmakers still have yet to reach a budget deal.
Madigan remains fervent in his efforts to resist Governor Rauner’s turnaround agenda — which includes changes to workers’ compensation, property tax relief and pension reform.
