(SPRING BAY) – The Illinois Department of Transportation announces that construction on Illinois 26 north of Spring Bay will begin Monday, May 6.

Crews will be replacing a culvert that had been causing the road to fail about a half-mile north of Lourdes Road. The work will require Illinois 26 to close during the project, which is expected to last about two weeks. A detour will be posted.

Drivers can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
