A proposal in Springfield could bring comfort to victims of violent crimes. The criminal justice reform bill is awaiting the signature of Gov. Bruce Rauner.
The bill cleared both chambers this week, getting through the Senate Tuesday.
The Neighborhood Safety Act will provide help to crime victims, rehabilitation options to inmates and more lee-way to judges during sentencing.
Counseling, family support and relocation assistance will also be available to victims.
Lawmakers say this bill can provide families the relief they need.
