Illinois House passes spending part of budget

The Illinois House has approved the spending portion of the budget.

The budget fully funds the education formula, makes the full payment to pension obligations, puts $100M toward rural broad band, and $70M toward substance abuse. 

State Representative Greg Harris says $200M will be spent on paying down the bill backlog; another $1.2B in bonds at a lower interest rate will also go to the backlog.

House Leader Jim Durkin (R) Burr Ridge says he voted for the budget which also includes an additional $100M for DCFS.

 State Representative Tom Demmer (R) Rochelle says “a number of House Republicans will be supportive” of the “fair compromise” in a “stable budget.”

House adjourns until Saturday at 10am.
