CANTON, Ill. - A 14-year-old student from Canton was struck by a car and killed Saturday evening.
Charles Montgomery was hit from behind, while he was walking east on County Highway 5. Fulton County Coroner Steve Hines says the boy was pronounced dead just after 7:30 p.m.
Montgomery was a student at Ingersoll Middle School in Canton.
The Superintendent of the Canton School District released the following statement:
On Saturday evening the Canton School District Learning Community lost a student member in a tragic accident. This simple document cannot describe the sorrow and grief our learning community is experiencing during this time of crisis. Our heartfelt sympathies, thoughts, and prayers of the entire Canton Learning Community go out to the student’s family. Most importantly, our learning community is committed to assisting our students and staff during this crisis. Accordingly, we have convened our crisis intervention team to provide grief services to staff and students who request a need. Finally, IMS is accepting donations to assist the student’s family during this time of need.
