Labor of Love: Blood donations to help cancer patients, burn victims

Local News

EAST PEORIA, Ill. — Blood donations on Labor Day can decrease as much as 20 percent.

That’s why on Tuesday the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center hosted its’ blood drive; Labor of Love. Many people came out to the Par-A-Dice Hotel and Casino in East Peoria and donated a pint of blood each.

Jim Watts, Manager of Donor Relations says your donation can save someone’s life.

“One donation can help up to three people. As with red blood cells, platelets and plasma. That one donation can impact three peoples’ lives at local hospitals. Whether that’s a cancer treatment, a burn victim, or a surgery or trauma,” said Watts.

If you didn’t make it out Tuesday, the blood center will be at the Interstate Center in the Twin Cities collecting more donation from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

WMBD’s Shelbey Roberts, Matt Sheehan, and Shaun Newell all gave blood Tuesday afternoon to celebrate our partnership with the Blood Center. You can watch Matt giving blood below.
