BARTONVILLE, Ill. — Hundreds of men and women are being celebrated for their selfless sacrifices Monday night.
Troops with the Illinois National Guard 1st Battalion, 178th Infantry Regiment are being honored in Bartonville at Limestone Community High School, preparing to deploy to Afghanistan.
The Illinois National Guard has a unique dual mission to serve both the community and country. That’s what they’ll be doing soon.
In total, about 400 troops from the 1st Battalion, 178th Infantry Regiment will be heading overseas. It is the largest mobilization of Illinois guardsmen and women in nearly a decade.
From Bartonville, soldiers will head to Fort Bliss in Texas for training, before deploying in December.
