Forty-eight local families are getting a fresh start through the South Side Office Of Concern and the Rotaey Club of Peoria North.
Everthing from towels, to sheets, cleaning supplies and more, the Peoria North Rotary Club used $10,000 worth of grant money to help local families get a head start.
“We like to lead by example,” said Brent Oest, Co-chair of Community Support Grants for Peoria North Rotary Club. “We take pride in leadership by example, service above self. We hope that we can certainly be an example for other groups and organizations. There’s plenty that do tremendous work. We just want to do our piece.”
Organizers of the project said it’s one thing to give checks to local charities, but to actually have a hand in making someone’s life better is a great way to serve our community.
“This helps people that legitimately want to get leg up,” said Oest. “It helps them get a little more of a leg up, [have] a little more of a chance.”
Each basket is worth an average $208 and was delivered to SSOC Thursday.
