LEROY - A 30-year-old Chicago man was arrested by U.S. Marshals on a murder warrant on Sept. 7 after LeRoy police had arrested him back in June for a DUI.
Suspect Anthony T. Haynes' car was impounded and told officers he was on the way to Mississippi. Haynes bonded out of the McLean County jail on the DUI charge on July 2, 2018.
On Aug. 25, 2018, Chicago PD contacted the LeRoy PD to inquire if the vehicle was still impounded, and it was. Chicago PD had developed information that Haynes was a suspect in a Chicago murder that had occurred earlier in the day, prior to LPD’s DUI arrest on June 28.
Chicago PD then obtained a search warrant for the vehicle and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services processed the vehicle in LeRoy.
LeRoy PD provided Chicago PD with its reports and videos of their arrest. Haynes was then found and arrested in Mississippi.
He is being extradited back to Chicago.
