CENTRAL ILLINOIS - Tributes are pouring in as other leaders remember the life of former President George H.W. Bush. Bush died Friday at the age of 94, less than eight months after his wife, Barbara.
U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood (R):
“I am deeply saddened to hear that President George H.W. Bush passed away last night. He was an amazing person who had a lifetime of public service. President Bush was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He served with distinction as a pilot in the U.S. Navy during WWII and went on to succeed at the highest levels of business and government before serving as our 41st President of the United States. Prior to that, he served as Vice President under President Ronald Reagan, Director of the CIA, and as a Congressman from Texas. He led a full life, and we mourn his death with the Bush family and the nation.”
U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos (D):
I’m deeply saddened to learn of the passing of President George H.W. Bush. He was a war hero who went on to serve our nation with character, dignity and a belief that America is at its best when we address our challenges with decency. RIP President Bush and prayers to his family.
Govorner-elect JB Pritzker (D):
President George H.W. Bush dedicated his life in service to our country. His legacy will never be forgotten. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
State Sen. Bill Brady (R):
War hero; husband; father; grandfather; president. George H. W. Bush led an extraordinary life and our nation will forever be grateful. My thoughts are with the Bush family during this difficult time.
U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R):
“George H.W. Bush believed that ‘the potential of the American people knows no limits’ and by joining together, a ‘thousand points of light,’ we could help one another and do good. His was a life well lived, and we are forever grateful for his leadership, his vision for America, and the lasting impact he has left on the country he loved so dearly.”
U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D):
Read the book “Fly Boys” and you will never think of President George H. W. Bush as anything other than one of the heroes of World War II. Ready to give his life as a young Navy Pilot who trained at Navy Pier in Chicago, President Bush devoted his entire life to America. He was humble, caring, and principled, qualities we venerate in a President.
