Local rappers, influential speakers encourage kids to seek positivity through music

Peoria, Ill. - Two local men are using their skills to spread positive messages through music.

Joe Couri and War Muhammed teamed up to spread the message of "Don't Start."

They're talking about not starting drugs, alcohol, gang activity and gun violence.

"We really want the kids to understand that if you don't start doing these things, you don't have to worry about getting out of the situation that doing these things is going to bring later," said Warith Muhammad, influential rapper.

Through their rap music and other songs, they say, the kids really take in their message.

"Don't start at all," War said. "Do start learning and getting more education and doing positive things. Complimenting people, not bullying people. Helping people, being nice. This is not how we just make a better city, but we make a better country and a better world."

The Don't Start initiative has already been in a number of area schools, which leave kids energized and talking about doing positive things in our community.
