PEORIA, Ill. --- Talented students helped kick off the 34th annual Brookhart Arts in Education Spring Celebration on Monday.
Chillicothe Junior High and Washington Central Intermediate performed today at the Peoria Riverfront Museum.
Students from seven counties in central illinois, and from over 100 schools, will be showcasing their work everyday starting Wednesday up until May 17 at the Peoria County Courthouse Plaza.
The spring celebration project director explained why jazz is so important.
"It is an American art form that truly originated in the us and it encompasses so many other art forms and gave birth to so many other art forms that it's really an american icon," project director Mindy Watkins said.
Although it's Jazz Appreciation Month, students will be showing off more than just their musical talents. There will also be photography, dance and musical theater.
