A softball pitcher from McLean County is an interment sensation, after her dad posted a video of her impressive dodgeball skills.
15-year-old Adyson Slayback annihilated two of her friends during a dodgeball game at a recent softball practice. Adyson has been playing softball since she was little and pitches on the Bloomington-Normal Girls Softball Association Angels travel team.
Her dad, Jeremiah, filmed the clip to put on the team’s Facebook, but never expected it to go viral.
“My dad kept messaging me and updating me on how many views. Because on Monday, it was at 10 a.m. there was like 11,000 views. And the next day, there were like 200,000 and it just kept going up. It was crazy,” Adyson explained.
The original video has more than one million views and has been shared on other outlets like ESPN and USAToday.com. Jeremiah says, from all of the different ways people have seen the video, he estimates it has a total of 25 million views.
“It’s been crazy. I think it’s pretty excited and everyone’s like ‘Oh, I know a famous person.’ It’s been fun,” said Adyson.
“She’s a pretty good pitcher, but we might have to rethink the career. Dodgeball might be next,” her dad added.
Jeremiah says most of the feedback has been good, but there have been some inappropriate comments and strangers reaching out to the girls in the video. He’s used the opportunity to talk with all of the players about internet safety.
Adyson says she doesn’t let the bad or inappropriate comments get to her. She’s just crossing her fingers that The Ellen Show or the Tonight Show will get a hold of the video next.
