EAST PEORIA, Ill. — “We really can’t get her off it. Once she comes home from school she asks about it and wants to go straight back there,” said Lisa Taylor, Anni Taylor’s mom. “To have this for her, to see her enjoy life…”
A play set- turned family treasure. All in part of making Anni Taylor’s wish come true.
“We just learn to put things on hold and really just try to enjoy the little things,” said Taylor.
Little 5 year old Anni was diagnosed with leukemia in June of 2016. Through a roller coaster of events, she received a bone marrow transplant on October 30, 2018. Since then, it’s been about celebrating life’s victories.
“She got her feeding tube out two weeks ago and she got her central line out maybe a month ago and this has been really recent,” said Taylor.
Through the triumphs, Make A Wish Illinois was there as a backbone. When the timing was right, the quest was on to fulfill Anni’s wish- to play outside on a new playground — donated by Rainbow Peoria Play Systems.
“She just kept pointing out the window and was really excited and wanted to go out and play.. and i was like ‘I know Anni! This is your play set! This is yours!'” said Taylor. “It’s kinda united our family. When we first got this all of our kids were hanging out together in the same space.”
Some children choose trips to Disney World, some– meeting celebrities, but for Anni, it was a much simpler request.
“Just to see the joy in her face, to have this everyday and to see how happy she is with it, it’s priceless.” said Taylor.
