PEORIA, Ill.– Peoria Police officers arrested a male suspect Sunday morning after he fired shots at an officer and led police on a short pursuit.

At approximately 4:25 a.m., officers responded to a call in the 300 block of East Virginia for an unknown problem. Police said a female caller requested police, but the call was disconnected. When the dispatcher attempted to call back, no one answered.

Upon arrival, officers found a male suspect outside of a residence holding a gun. The male refused orders to drop the weapon and then fired two shots at the officer. The officer returned fire, but no one was hit during the gunfire.

Officers then say the suspect entered a vehicle and fled the scene eastbound of Virginia. After approximately one block, the man crashed his vehicle into the front porch of a residence in the 2600 block of North Missouri.

The man was taken into custody at the scene of the crash.
