PEORIA, Ill. — The man allegedly involved in the shooting death of 16-year-old Zarious Fair on Wednesday has been charged.

In his first court appearance on Friday, 18-year-old Doyle E. Nelson was charged with two counts of first degree murder. The Peoria Police Department is investigating Fair’s death as an armed robbery.

Nelson admitted he was at the scene of the shooting in the 700 block of East Frye Ave., but denied taking part in the shooting or robbery.

The suspect was arrested late Wednesday night on charges of resisting a police officer. Another suspect, a 14-year-old male, was also arrested. The younger suspect appeared in juvenile court at 9 a.m. Friday.

The attempted armed robbery was allegedly due to a previous fight, officials said on Friday.

Nelson’s bond was set at $2 million and is due back in court on July 11.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said Fair was shot in the chest, abdomen and pelvis; he later died of traumatic blood loss.
