Man faces two counts of first-degree after Peoria’s 17th homicide

PEORIA, Ill.– Peoria man Breon Jones faces two counts of first-degree murder and one count of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.

The Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood reported 38-year-old Marshawn Tolliver died this Monday after a shooting on Aug. 6.

Tolliver, who was 38, was shot near the intersection of Peoria and East Maywood Ave. He was pronounced dead at OSF Healthcare Saint Francis Medical Center.

Thursday, Jones appeared at an arraignment hearing. He could face up to 164 years in prison if convicted.

Harwood said autopsy findings on Tolliver show he suffered multiple gun shots wound to his anterior and posterior upper body, as well as one of his upper extremities and one of his lower extremities.The wounds showed significant internal injuries and hemorrhage.

Jones has been in jail since Aug. 14. His bond is set at $2,000,000.

Tolliver’s death marks Peoria County’s 17th homicide of 2019.

This case remains under investigation by the Peoria Police Department. Jones is set to appear in scheduling court on Oct. 10.
