PEORIA, Ill. — A Peoria man is dead after a shooting in the city Sunday night.

Around 8:40 p.m., Peoria police responded to a shot spotter alert in the 1300 block of Kettelle Street.

Upon arrival, Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said police found 23-year-old Kennard Hardy II with multiple gunshot wounds. Harwood said Hardy was transported OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in “grave condition” and ultimately died from his injuries at 12:44 a.m. Monday.

Tuesday, Harwood said autopsy findings showed Hardy was shot multiple times on the trunk of his body and suffered from detrimental internal bleeding. Additionally, he said there was no evidence of close-range fire and there were no defense wounds.

The city’s police department spokeswoman Amy Dotson said the ShotSpotter alert said 10 rounds were fired.

Police are still looking for a suspect and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the PPD at (309) 673-4521.
