Man shot in Peoria overnight

PEORIA, Ill.– A man is recovering after being shot in the leg Tuesday night in Peoria.

According to the Peoria Police Department, a dispatch call came in right before 11 p.m. Tuesday. Police responded to 11 shots fired in the 1400 block of Monroe St.

Police say they found a man running away from officers at the scene. He was caught and arrested after throwing a gun on the ground. He had a gunshot wound to the leg. It’s not yet clear when the man was shot.

The man was taken to the hospital and arrested for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Police say the man also had warrants out for his arrest from other jurisdictions.
