An active duty Marine from Peoria Heights died Friday after a crash in Gambrills, Maryland.

21-year-old James Ray Walden was driving his motorcycle Friday when the driver of a BMW lost control of his vehicle and crossed into Walden’s lane, hitting him head-on. Walden was thrown from the motorcycle and died.

The driver of the BMW, 28-year-old Martin Martinez, left the scene when police arrived, but was found and arrested nearby. Police believe speed caused the crash.

Walden’s permanent address was in Peoria Heights. He was stationed at Ft. Meade, which is just a few miles from where the crash happened.
