Kids from Marquette Heights, police and firefighters went against each other on the annual water balloon fight outside of the city office. Some firefighters even used their hoses.
This has been going on for three years now, the Saturday before kids go back to school. Marquette Heights police officers said this helps build relationships with kids at a young age. Officers are often seen in more serious situations, and they wanted to show how they can be personable too.
“It’s chaos, it’s a water balloon fight and they’re coming from everywhere, you never know. They seem to have a great time with it, parents have a great time with it. Officers have a great time with it. We all come out in uniform so they see us in uniform because not many of them get to see us out in uniform,” said Lt. William Merritt, Marquette Heights Police.
Children up to third grade were given a chance to battle it out with the officers first and then older kids got their chance.
