EUREKA, Ill. — Maurie’s Candy Store in Pekin has found new ownership, and a new location for it’s business.
The sweet treat shop had been a staple in Pekin since 1941 and many saw it as a loss for the community when the business closed in July. But three weeks ago, the Association for the Developmentally Disabled in Woodford County (ADDWC) reached out to bring Mauries to Downtown Eureka.
Now, they’re hoping to keep the history alive by providing new employment opportunities for the ADDWC’s adults.
“When we saw this opportunity was there, we thought it was a great fit for our clients to work in the store, to interact with folks and educate people in what we do,” said Keith Mcardle, President and CEO of ADDWC.

The ADDWC hopes to open Maurie’s new location in Eureka by the holidays.
