METAMORA, Ill. — People in Metamora are heartbroken after a tragic accident that left a young boy dead.
Three-year-old Luke Rynearson drowned early Monday morning after wandering from his home to a nearby at the Lake Wildwind Mobile Home Park.
“Heartbreaking. Heartbreaking to have that happen,” said neighbor Melissa Smith.
Since then, neighbors have wondered how something like this could have happened.
“She said please help, somebody is in the lake, a child is in the lake,” said Smith.
Smith was one the neighbors who helped perform CPR.
“To have seen that was…devastating,” said Smith.
There’s no fence around the lake.
“You just have to watch your kids. Everybody that lives out here is responsible for watching your own kids,” said Smith.
Park Management says since they opened in the 1970’s, they’ve never had any problems.
“There’s never been anything like this ever happen,” said Smith.
Management also says there has been an outpouring of sympathy since Monday.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says there’s no sign of foul play.
The Woodford County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation is ongoing.
