Meteorologist Zach Hatcher riding in storm tracker before roads refreeze

6 pm road condition update on January 22nd, 2018

As temperatures drop below freezing overnight, roads will likely become slick. Some light freezing rain did occur earlier, but as a slight push of warmer air moved through, getting temperatures above freezing, everything changed over to rain in the Peoria area. As rain falls and melts the leftover snow and ice on roads, temperatures will cause the melted snow and ice to refreeze, causing problems for drivers on tomorrow's work commute. Roads in the downtown area of Peoria are covered with rain and road crews could very well have their hands full over the next few days. Make sure to give crews plenty of space on the roads as they work to clear the main interstates, highways and residential roads.
