Local News

Its a historic day for Morton baseball.

The Potters play for the programs first state championship in 34 years.

They won a state title back in 1984.

It’s Morton versus St. Ignatius in the class 3A title game in Joliet.

Logan Petersen gets the start and did his part, allowing one run in six innings.

Third inning, Potters lead 2-1 when Kyle Killion brings home Nick Guerra on this fielders choice.

They keep it moving.

Later in the inning, it’s Evan Pfiefer finding the hole in the left side.

Vinni Massaglia hustles home to make it 4-1 potters.

Guerra comes in for the save in the seventh after two strikeouts.

He induces a grounder and Morton seals the win.

“As soon as he threw that ball to first I got goosebumps and I just had no idea where I was and finally it just came to me and it was like, ‘we’re state champions,'” says Logan Petersen. “Not a lot of teams get to say that I just think it’s really cool. Every time I talk about it I get goosebumps every time.”

The Potters are class 3A baseball champions.
