MORTON - The Morton Police Department issued a fraud alert Wednesday involving a quick change scammer targeting business in Morton and Washington.
The suspect was reported to be in Morton on June 5 and was active early Wednesday at various gas stations. The suspect is reportedly driving a vehicle with Wisconsin license plates.
A quick change scammer will use large dollar bills to pay for inexpensive items and distract the cashier while they are counting the change by asking for change in different denominations, or by asking to pay for the item with a smaller bill, which then confuses the cashier into giving the scammer more change back than what is actually due.
Those with any information, or who are aware of any suspicious activity, are encouraged to call the Morton Police Department at (309) 266-6666.
