The Morton Village Board voted unanimously 6-0 Monday to ban cannabis businesses, according to Village Clerk Sam Ritthaler.
The ordinance includes cultivation centers, craft growers, processing
organizations, dispensing organizations, or transporting organizations.
Governor J.B. Pritzker last month signed a bill allowing recreational marijuana sales in Illinois, though the bill does allow municipalities to ban sale and manufacture. Organizations and municipalities also have some control over use.
Under the new Morton ordinance, if a business is found to be selling marijuana, it will face a fine of up to $750 for each offense. Each day a violation is found is considered a separate offense.
