PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria’s north end neighborhood wants to remind the community that there is more love in the community than violence.
The Peoria North End Urban Garden finished painting a new mural Thursday morning, hoping to combat recent gun violence with encouragement. It reads “Love is quieter than gunshots, but there’s more of it.” It is a quote by author James Mark Miller.
“I hope that they see that things can change down here, [that] people don’t have to resort to violence,” resident Molly Rice said.
Every morning from 9 a.m.-noon through Thursday, community members and Mission Peoria kids gathered at the community garden to paint the empowering mural.
“There are people down here who care about their neighbors,” Rice said. “We’re still here, we’re going to stay here. And we’re going to keep being positive.”
