New animals coming to Miller Park Zoo

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Miller Park Zoo will be adding 4 new members to their animal family. A Hooded Crane, a Guanaco and Greater Rhea, and Alligators will be joining the park.

A Hooded Crane arrived last week and is settling into the exhibit well. The Zoo currently has a male with a female crane expected to arrive later this spring.

The Zoo will also be receiving two Guanaco and a Greater Rhea arriving on Saturday, May 19th.

The Zookeepers work hard to make the life of every animal at the Zoo better every day. The Miller Park Zoo strives to have the highest standards of animal care and welfare. The welfare of the animals always comes first, that is why the Zoo has decided to send out the Harbor Seals.

The seals will go to the Louisville Zoo in September. At the Louisville Zoo, the three males will be housed with other Harbor Seals and California Sea Lions and be part of their 110,000 gallon saltwater Award Winning exhibit.

The Miller Park Zoo will replace the Harbor Seals with American Alligators.  According to records, the Zoo has never exhibited American Alligators in its 127 years of existence.
