New art business in Peoria in the running for Fedex’s $50,000 small business grant

Local News

The art scene in Peoria is continuing to grow, and one local company needs your help to bring their dream into a reality.

Black Dog Metal Arts is turning part of the basement of the old Greeley School into a foundry where the owners will teach classes on how to weld and cast iron.

The company is currently in the run for a grant from Fedex for equipment and classes.

“We’re trying to open up opportunities for people to learn about sculptural art in the area.  We have a lot of drawing and painting classes and workshops but we don’t have many opportunities in sculpture at this time.  So we want to be able to teach people how to cast aluminum and bronze, and offer iron pours and metal fabrication and things like that,” said owner of Black Dog Metal Arts Jam Lovell.
