Illinois State University is looking into the possibility of adding more student living opportunities.
Leaders say, this is for two reasons, the first, a general need for more space, the second is, some older dorms were outdated and need vital upgrades to things like sprinkler systems.
Officials thought instead of adding these systems, it would be a better use of money to tear the buildings down and start anew.
So right now leaders are asking private developers to submit design proposals that would house twelve-hundred students.
“One of the features of this proposed housing project would be pod style living, where you have bedrooms connected to a shared living room space,” said ISU Spokesman Eric Jome. “It’s moving a little more to apartment style living and that’s something that students have identified as something that they like.”
Private developer proposals will be due by the end of the month and ISU Officials will be choosing finalists by February.
Leaders say they hope to see some sort of contstruction by 2021.
