Heartland Community College has a new program for nursing students.
Typically students work on each other, classmates or teachers on check up evaluations; but now they have a little help from volunteers.
The school’s president, board members and alumni of the program lined up to get assessed by the kids.
Leaders say its a great way to prepare them for the real world.
“We want our students to be able have realistic experiences as students that we can’t always capture in a clinical setting, when we get to a hospital we get what is there and we take care of the patients that are available to us and those are very valuable and important experiences,” Said Jennifer o’connor, HCC director of nursing.
Leaders say it started as an experiment for this year but they plan to implement it in the program for the future.
