This summer, the Ecology Action Center will be doing all they can to help increase recycling participation in McLean County. Starting today they will be accepting applications for low-income housing participants who want to be involved in their needs-based pilot program.
They believe financial need prevents some low-income housing residents from the existing single stream curbside program. Thanks to the Illinois Prairie Foundation Grant the EAC will be providing recycling bins to those who cannot afford to do so to help reduce barriers that would prohibit participation.
This new pilot program would fund the purchase and distribution of 82 curbside recycling bins to those families.
The EAC will be accepting applications for the program from now until July 31 or until the 82-bins run out. They encourage you to apply in person at the Ecology Action Center in Normal or by calling (309) 454-3169. You may also visit their website at ecologyactioncenter.org/IPCF.
However, in order to qualify you must currently reside in Normal, receive garbage collection services from the town, live in a single-family housing unit and meet the U.S. Department of Housing’s maximum income limit guidelines based on the number of people within your household.
