PEORIA - Peoria’s new trash and recycling collection program officially starts next week on Monday, January 7. Updates have been made to the trash and recycling programs.
"It's important for the city," said Patrick Urich, city manager. "It's a great convenience. We provide a very high level of waste collection for our residents and we're very proud of that."
The updates are based on feedback from residents. The biggest updates to the program are that many residents will have a new pickup day and recycling will now be picked up every other week, on the same day as your trash pickup. There is no more deposit required and residents are able to sign up for free to receive their recycling cart. Trash pickup will still be weekly and residents should continue to bag trash before placing it in the cart and set the cart out by 6:00 a.m. on their pickup day.
City of Peoria residents should have received a postcard last month listing their new pickup day.
For residents that are signed up and have received their new cart, there are two recycling schedules in place – A and B. Residents on Schedule A can set out their recycling cart on their weekly pickup day, starting Monday, January 7, 2019 and residents on Schedule B can set out their recycling cart starting on Monday, January 14, 2019. After that, recycling pickup will be every other week.
The City has been thrilled with the response to increased recycling with almost 3,000 residents signing up since the announcement was made in October 2018.
