Local News

NORMAL, Ill., Elected council members were sworn into Normal City Council Monday.

Councilman Stan Nord and Councilwoman Karyn Smith were new-elects while the incumbent, Kathleen Lorenz was elected for another term.

We spoke with both Nord and Smith who say they are excited to uphold their positions and are ready to have direct input in decisions made for the city.

They also told us what they vow to do for the city of Normal now that they’ve won their seats on the council.

“I vow to show up if somebody has something they want me to ask me about and to give them an answer. They may not always like what I have to tell them, but I promise I’ll hear them and I’ll do my best to find out what can happen on their behalf,” Smith said.

“We have to either tax more which is just [going to] further drive people and businesses out or reduce expenses and that’s what I’m bringing to the table is looking at the expenses we [have to] reduce that side,” Nord said.
