Immigrants from the Peoria area were sworn in as U.S. citizens this morning during a Naturalization Ceremony. Ninety people from 29 different countries filled the room to become new American citizens.
Family members and loved ones witnessed this special moment. Many had been waiting for almost a decade.
“I feel so relieved, I feel so happy, I feel so honored to be a citizen of the United States. It’s been a long journey but this is the day,” said Ani Craig.
During the ceremony, the judge encouraged them to begin to use their right to vote and even provided a space for them to register to vote, right outside the ceremony.
