Saturday, Normal community members gathered for the 5th annual MCStrong 5k classic at the Corn Crib.

This event is a benefit for Michael Collins, a former Illinois State University student killed in 2014 by a drunk driver.
Since then his family and the community have continued to honor him.

They talked about his legacy, the dangers of driving drunk and ran for the cause.

“We want to bring awareness to a very tragic crime that’s 100% preventable..,” Michael’s brother James Collins said. “…Hopefully, you know in the future we can lessen the effects of drunk driving and the fatalities that go along with it so nobody has to go through what our family went through in losing a son a brother (and a) close friend to many people in this community.”

Michael’s brother said in his death, he improved the lives of several others through organ donations.
