NORMAL, Ill. — The Normal Police Department announced Wednesday the retirement of its K9, Barrett, who was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

Barrett will live out the rest of his days as Ofc. Jon Cleveland’s lap dog, which the NPD said is “A much deserved status.”

In his time with the NPD, Barrett helped seize over 37,000 grams of illegal drugs and $27,000 throughout his career. He participated in 491 presentations to the citizens of Normal and 459 arrests.

“We are proud to have served next to you Barrett,” the NPD said. “Enjoy your retirement!”
