PEORIA, Ill., — Kids in Peoria now have new school supplies thanks to OSF
Saint Francis Medical Center.
Thursday, the healthcare company helped families prepare to send their kids back to school.
The back to school event offered free physicals, healthy recipes and samples, and free school supplies.
However, OSF’s greatest focus is on helping the community live healthier lifestyles.
They used the garden of hope, a community effort, to teach neighbors about healthy eating.
“The ultimate goal is really just to help people get to a better state of health by promoting access to food and really looking at food as medicine from a healthcare perspective,” OSF director of ambulatory patient care Jo Garrison said.
The Garden of Hope is open to volunteers in the community looking to grow fruits and vegetables and learn how to manage a healthy diet.
