The largest employer in Gridley’s doors are now closed.

The Pantagraph reported that Kerry Inc. shut down the plant Wednesday due to drop in demand for cereal that was produced there.

The closure is impacting 115 employees in the McLean County village. They were offered severance packages and some offered jobs at other Kerry Inc. plants.

Over the summer, the FDA cited the company because they said the cereal prepared there was made in unsanitary conditions, noting salmonella was found in samples.

A spokesman for the company told the Bloomington paper they tried to keep the plant open, but it just wasn’t financially feasible.

“Hopefully, a time will come when the plant can re-open, but this is the only option right now,” Gene Grabowski told the outlet.

Kerry is a leading supplier of chilled and frozen food products in the U.K. and Ireland. There is also a plant in Wisconsin.
