BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Some parking changes in the Twin Cities will affect drivers in the next several weeks.
City staff are in the process of evaluating the Market Street Parking Deck. During this time some parking spaces may not be accessible as crew members will be repairing some areas of the garage.
Leaders say these updates happen every year, but with the cost to maintain it skyrocketing, it may be time for a new garage.
“We do have in our long term plans, an ultimate replacement of the garage,” said Russel Waller, Facilities Director for Bloomington. “It’s 45 years old. We can keep it functioning, but it just costs more and more money every year.”
Just down the street, the new gates and pay station at the Arena Parking Garage are active as of this week.
The gates will be lowered at 5 a.m. and raised at 6 p.m. on weekdays. They will remain open all other times.
Daily parking customers get four hours free parking, then pay $1.00 per hour. Parking is free outside of the hours above, even when the gates are down.
A $10.00 fee will be administered to those who lose the ticket.
