Julz Kutz & Kolorz hair salon in gave free haircuts for kids in the community as they get ready for the first day of school.
Staff began cutting hair at 7 AM and went on for the rest of the day. Many families waited outside the business for their turn to pick their favorite hairstyle.
Owner of the salon, Julie Rasmussen, said she want to help parents worry about one less thing. She also wants children to feel good about themselves.
“When they come in here they get a whole new hair do. They walk out with a self-esteem. We know that there’s so much bullying at schools and this prevents them from having any bullying because they’re that child that’s titled the low income child because they never get to have a haircut,” said Rasmussen.
Julie said she makes sure every kid who walks in through the door knows their self worth.
