PEKIN, Ill. — An area man is dead after a Wednesday morning crash in rural South Pekin.

Officials were first called to the intersection of Rt. 29 and Main Street at 6:12 a.m. Wednesday. A 42-year-old Pekin man was found entrapped in a vehicle.

The Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office said the man was pronounced deceased at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center after a two vehicle accident. Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood later identified the man as Chad E. Williams.

Harwood said Williams suffered blunt force trauma injuries from the impact and that there would be no autopsy. His toxicology results are pending.

A witness said Williams was headed westbound on Main St. in South Pekin and was stopped at the stop sign waiting to cross IL Route 29 to Hurt Road. He pulled out from the stop sign in path of a northbound Ford F-250 pickup truck and was struck on the driver’s side door, tossing both vehicles into the ditch.

The truck driver received minor injuries.

The investigation is still ongoing.
