Pekin Marigold Festival chooses a new theme

Local News

PEKIN, Ill. — The annual Pekin Marigold Festival is held this week from Sept. 5-8 at Mineral Springs Park.

Thousands of people came out to enjoy the festivities.
The festival offers tons of activities from live music to shopping at local art stands. There were hundreds of stands to choose from.

Each year a different theme is selected. This year it is marigold heroes.
It is meant to honor those who people see as being heroes in their lives.

“Celebrating marigold heroes is the theme that we chose, based on the special guest we had come in town, but we feel like a hero can mean different things to different people,” said Marigold Festival Committee Chairman Amy Mccoy, “so we think this is a good opportunity for folks to celebrate the heroes in their lives whoever they may be.”

The Pekin Marigold Festival first started in 1973. They plan to continue the tradition in many years to come.
