Two Pekin residents have received their sentence for charges of Theft of Government Property, which is a class 4 felony.
Susan Erbe and Christopher Yount, both 56-years-old and from Pekin, pleaded guilty to the charge earlier this month. It’s a result of an investigation by the Illinois State Police Medicaid Fraud Control Bureau, which found the two had been Personal Assistants for an Illinois Department of Human Services customer.
Rules set by the DHS Home Services Program say a Personal Assistant can only provide services while the customer is at home, not in a hospital or nursing home. The customer Erbe and Yount were serving had been in and out of nursing homes and hospitals for more than a year. However, the two continued submitting time sheets, claiming to provide services.
Erbe claimed 116 fraudulent hours for a total overpayment amount of $1,356.20. Yount claimed more than 200 hours, earning $2,507.63 in fraudulent overpayments.
Both Erbe and Yount will serve 30 months of probation, 30 hours of community service, and must pay restitution for the amounts they were fraudulently paid.
