Pekin PD says man involved in domestic dispute not a threat to public after incident at store

PEKIN, Ill. — The Pekin Police Department said the man involved in a possible standoff Friday afternoon is not a threat to the community.

Officers surrounded Half Vaped at 1020 Derby St. after being called to the scene regarding a domestic incident. Police said a man and woman were arguing outside the store when the man reportedly then went in and refused to leave the store, barricading himself into one of the back rooms.

Pekin officers said there were no employees inside at the time.

Police also said they are not sure if he is currently armed, but they do not consider him a threat to the public.

When officers did a search of the store, they found nobody inside. Police are currently searching for him.

A SWAT team was on the scene as well.
