PEKIN, Ill. (WMBD) — A 72-year-old Pekin woman is dead after a car hit her while she was crossing Broadway Road Sunday evening.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said Lia-Marie Taylor, who lived on North 19th Street in Pekin, was taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria in grave condition following the crash.

Despite resuscitation efforts, Taylor was pronounced dead at 9:36 p.m. Sunday.

An autopsy showed Taylor suffered several severe blunt-force head and neck trauma injuries. Harwood said she died instantly.

According to a police report, the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Broadway Road when the vehicle struck Taylor, who was walking south across Broadway Road.

Police responded to the crash at 8:55 p.m. near the 2000 block of Broadway Road. They said the driver of the vehicle immediately stopped, entered a nearby business, and asked for assistance.

Illinois State Police also responded to the crash.
