PEKIN, Ill. — People in Pekin walked in the fourth annual Fight the Fight Walk to raise awareness for drug addiction on Saturday at the Pekin Park District.
The day supports those who have lost a family member to addiction, those who are still fighting, and those who are in recovery.
Activities at the event included music, speeches, and a dove release, before starting a lap around the lagoon.
Wendy McCready, who lost her son to overdose, started the walk four years ago.
She says the walk is important and makes resources available to the community.
“So that we could bring awareness, education, and resources to our community, so that we can try to help other parents from not having to bury their children to overdose,” said McCready.
Event organizers also gave out Narcan, which can help in situations with overdose.
