The Peoria Area Food Bank will be hosting a “Mobile Food Pantry” on Monday, August 13th in front of the former Kroger store in Madison Park Plaza.

Eight to 10 volunteers are needed to help set up and distribute food to local residents in need. Food will be distributed from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. while supplies last.

Thanks to Redeemer Lutheran Church, back packs with school supplies will also be distributed while supplies last.

The Mobile Food Pantry will be located in a spot that has left residents around the area without easily accessible food. The area is now known as a food dessert.

Food deserts are defined as parts of the country vapid of fresh fruit, vegetables, and other healthful whole foods, usually found in impoverished areas. This is largely due to a lack of grocery stores, farmers’ markets, and healthy food providers.
