Peoria residents are working together, supporting an infant in need. One-year-old Wally Bastian recently got a heart transplant, residents are stepping in to support his medical costs.

Salem Lutheran church held a fundraiser Wednesday to benefit wally. Dozens came, purchasing dinners and participating in raffles.

The young Chilicothe toddler was born with Barth Sydrome, a rare heart condition.

After waiting for weeks, Wally finally got a heart transplant back in February. Since then, the support for him has been endless.

Salem Lutheran joins the dozens who have supported Wally. His grandfather says hes happy to have the support of his church family.

“I’m a member here at Salem Lutheran,” said Jeff Bastian. “They’ve been kind enough to show support for Wally. This is just one of the ways they’ve done it, they’ve done several opportunities for donations.”

Jeff says Wally is doing well since the surgery.

Right now Wally is at the Ronald McDonald house in Chicago where he is still recovering.
